CILAVS Early Career Researchers Network is a collaborative and interdisciplinary space where postgraduate students at Birkbeck College can discuss ideas and develop projects on visual studies related to Iberian and Latin-American contexts. It emerged in 2022 under the umbrella of the Centre for Iberian and Latin American Visual Studies at Birkbeck, University of London.

The network seeks to disseminate early career researchers' theoretical and empirical work and organise events like film screenings, exhibitions and panels of discussion on visual arts, promoting engagement with other organisations, artists, scholars, and the community.

MEMBERS:

Daniela Larraín Salas, co-cordinator,

PhD Candidate in the Department of Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck College, University of London. Her research focuses on the politic-aesthetic production of the figure of the perpretator through the legal archives for human rights violations perpetrated during the Chilean dictatorship (1973-1990).

Raquel Villar-Pérez, co-cordinator,

PhD Candidate MPhil Iberian and Latin American Studies at Birkbeck College, University of London. Raquel's research looks at the under-researched contribution of the visual arts to the formation of an Afro-Mexican identity and how they are used as a space to articulate the legacies of sub-Saharan Africa as a form of resistance.
